BVI maritime future

Our History

1986

Establishment of the British Virgin Islands Shipping Registry as a division of the government.

1995

Implementation of the first comprehensive maritime legislation, aligning BVI with international standards.

2001

Achieved Category 1 Red Ensign Group status, allowing registration of vessels of all types, sizes, and ages.

2012

Restructuring into the British Virgin Islands Maritime Authority as a semi-autonomous regulatory body.

2020

Launch of digital transformation initiative, modernizing vessel registration and certification processes.
